ergonomics

When it comes to dealing with ergonomic issues, we are among the “ pioneers ” in the Basel area.

We have been dealing with such questions since the early 1980s and have examined a wide variety of workplaces in this context and, based on this, carried out courses and training in companies but also for professional associations .

From the knowledge gained, we designed a course called “ The Art of Sitting ” back in 1989, probably unique in this way, in order to make people aware of the risks of a more and more dominant sitting work position in order to be able to avoid the foreseeable “seat damage” .

In 1991 the institute for work motor skills - ERGON - was founded, which was dedicated to the systematic investigation and training of work movements.

In 1992, on the initiative of the author, an article appeared in the BAZ, which was intended to draw attention to the problem of sitting.

In 1995 this was integrated into the newly established physiotherapy practice under the name ERGON - Practice for Physiotherapy and Ergonomic Movement. The term work motor skills was replaced by ergonomic movement.

In 2001 the name was finally changed again

in ERGONIC® physiotherapy .

Ergonic is an acronym and is formed from the two terms Ergon = work and Motoric = movement , which in turn refers to the term work motor skills.

Examples from previous work motion studies

Even in these records of rather rare occupational movements, one can see

that in the sitting working position the flexion movement / posture of the spine dominates,

which is accompanied by a clear forward movement of the head and so overstrains the shoulder girdle and neck muscles.

The typical trigger points can arise in these muscles, as shown in the article about the trigger points .
