Gyrotonic

The Juliu Horvath Method

The GYROTONIC Expansion System® movement concept was developed by the Hungarian dancer Juliu Horvath and is unique of its kind.

The name is derived from the Greek words gyros = top and tonos = tension and points to the central idea of this concept: performing circular movements under tension . These movements can be implemented on the Pulley Tower Combination Unit (PTCU).

Juliu Horvath writes:

“The Gyrotonic Expansion System® is a holistic movement concept that regards the human body as a unit and the spine as its central support. It is a movement system that uniquely combines millennia-old Far Eastern knowledge of body energy with modern kinetics. The diverse movements do not address the musculoskeletal system in an isolated and one-dimensional manner, as is the case with conventional training forms.

The Gyrotonic concept uses three-dimensional movement sequences that are self-contained and carried out without interruption against a constant resistance. Each movement is synchronized with a corresponding breathing pattern and executed melodically and rhythmically.

The Gyrotonic devices allow complete freedom of movement and have no restrictions in terms of range of motion and intensity.

Particular attention is paid to increasing the functional capacity of the spine. Through the development of extraordinary flexibility and strength, this leads to organic rejuvenation, increased vitality and dynamism. Strength, coordination and flexibility are developed at the same time.

Gyrotonic is the optimal training for every requirement. "
